GEMS EXHIBIT
SECED is pleased to announce the “SECED Emerald of the Plains GEMS Program,” which is a public art program for Southeast Colorado.
The “SECED GEMS EXHIBIT” featuring outdoor sculptures on Main Street in the communities of Lamar, Springfield, Ordway, Eads, and Las Animas, which are the county seats of Baca, Bent, Crowley, Kiowa and Prowers.
All Sculptures in the Gems exhibit will be for sale. Each year, SECED GEMS EXHIBIT proposes to distribute brochures, advertise electronically and also acquire permanent pieces into the exhibit. The regional installation of artwork will be on August
21st & 22nd, 2004. Art supporters and community members will be invited to watch the installation and meet the exhibiting artists at this function.
A reception for the artist will be held on August 20, 2004 prior to installation.
Each year, as part of the exhibit, the public will vote to determine the winner of the “People’s Choice Award,” which may be considered for purchase for the SECED permanent collection. In addition, a $500 annual cash award will be given to one of the
sculptors.
SECED GEMS EXHIBIT is a public project; all proposed works are screened to ensure durability and artistic merit prior to acceptance. Fragile, dangerous or inappropriate works will not be accepted. SECED will create metal base pedestals for the
rotating display and pieces will be selected based on the artistic merit and appropriateness for public art. Call SECED to day to be part of the 2005 GEMS EXHIBIT!
